Blitz, Barrhaven win in Manotick on Wednesday - now with details

Ottawa Taylor's Blitz 7 West Carleton Electric 4

In the first game of the doubleheader in Manotick on Wednesday night the Ottawa Taylor's Blitz beat West Carleton Electric 7-4. Jamie Blakely had the complete game win and Andy Barber took the loss with relief from Steve Cavanagh.

After the Electric left the bases loaded in the top of the first, the Blitz went up 2-0 in the bottom of the frame. Jamie Blakely hit a long fly ball to left that was misplayed and made it to third base. Derick Bulley then singled to drive in Blakely. After a Tony Searle single, Jon Ferguson's ground out to first scored Bulley.

The Electric got on the board with a solo homer from Jeff Barber in the top of the third.

However, the Blitz had a big response in the bottom of three. Marcel Mondoux double to start things off. Blakely reached base on a fielder's choice when the Electric tried to get Mondoux at third but he slid in safely. A misplayed grounder resulted in Mondoux scoring and Bulley reaching base. Searle the singled to drive in Blakely and Bulley. Searle took second on the throw in - and the scored on Jon Ferguson's single. Russ Mitchell singled  later in the inning to score Ferguson and put up the Blitz 7-2.

Steve Cavanagh came in to pitch for the Electric and shut down the Blitz the rest of the game, but the offspeed pitching of Blakely prevented WC from coming back.

West Carleton did manage a run in the fifth when Derek Barber singled and scored on newcomer Matt Bowman's single.

As well the Electric got two in the seventh when Jeff Barber tripled and scored on Derek Barber's single, followed by Dave Bahm's RBI single which drove in Derek. But the comeback fell short and the Blitz prevailed 7-4.

For his complete game win, Jamie Blakely, who also scored twice to help his cause, was named Caveman's Choice player of the game.
