Article in the West Carleton Review
The following article appeared in the April 25, 2008 edition of the West Carleton Review Weekender, which features lots of GOFL coverage throughout the season.
The Greater Ottawa Fastball League, the premier men's fastpitch softball league in eastern Ontario and western Quebec, will have nine teams this season.
Two West Carleton teams play in the league - Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric and Carp I4C Victory. WC Electric were GOFL playoff finalists in 2007, losing to five-time champions, Ottawa Team Easton. Other teams in the league include the Quyon Combat Flyers, Manotick Lomor Printers, Ottawa Blitz, Orleans Gators, Stittsville 56ers, and the expansion Greely DNTW Eagles.
The twelve weeks of regular season play will start in early May and end in late July. WC Electric home games are on Tuesday nights at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre, with I4C Victory playing in Carp on Thursday nights at the Carp Fairgrounds.
Playoffs will follow, with all nine teams playing down for the "I4C Trophy".
Teams will play an unbalanced schedule of 20 games, which will include two games each at a League "Showcase Weekend", to be hosted in Metcalfe on Saturday May 31.
Several GOFL teams as well as other teams from across Ontario and Quebec will be playing in the International Softball Congress qualifier tournament in McNab/Braeside from June 20-22, with the top team earning a berth in the ISC Tournament of Champions in Appleton, Wisconsin in August 2008.
Fitzroy Harbour will also play host an ISC qualifier from September 19-21 with the winner earning a berth in the 2009 ISC Tournament of Champions in Iowa.
