GOFL starts this week

After a long winter, the 2010 Greater Ottawa Fastball League season is finally getting ready to start this week.

The GOFL will feature eight teams this season.

Defending champions Stittsville 56ers will be out to try and retain possession of the I4C Consulting Trophy. Also back are 2009 finalists Quyon COMBAT Flyers, Carp I4C Victory, Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric, Manotick Lomor Printers and the Ottawa Blitz.

Returning teams with a new look are the Kars Aces (formerly Ottawa Team Easton) and North Gower Marlboroughs (formerly Greely Eagles).

The Orleans Gators have withdrawn from the GOFL for 2010 due to player availability issues and hope to return in the future.

The first game of the season will be at the newly renovated diamond in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday at 8:30pm as West Carleton Electric host Carp I4C Victory.

Wednesday night will feature a rematch of last year's finals as the Quyon COMBAT Flyers visit the Grove to face the Stittsville 56ers at 8:30pm.

The Wednesday night doubleheader at the Manotick Arena diamonds will see the Kars Aces face Manotick Lomor Printers at 7pm, with North Gower Marlboroughs visiting the Ottawa Blitz in the night cap at 9pm.

Quyon will have their home opener with their new Thursday night time slot at 7:30pm, hosting their cross-river rivals WC Electric.

The final game of the opening week see the Printers at the Carp Fairgrounds to face I4C Victory at 8:30pm.
