I4C edges WC Electric 2-1

Carp I4C Victory came back for a 2-1 win over West Carleton Electric on GOFL play on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.

Neil Cooke had the win while Andy Barber took the loss.

Carp started strong in the first as Eric Colvin led off with a single and Aaron Amo also singled to put runners on the corners with none out. Barber pitched out of the jam to keep I4C off the board.

Fitzroy took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Dave Bahm homerun.

I4C threatened in the fourth. Kevin McGuire led off with a single and moved to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. When Al Read grounded out to short, McGuire attempted to score but was thrown out at home.

A long solo shot by Amo in the top of the sixth tied the game.

WC Electric tried to regain their lead in the sixth after Andy Barber led off with a single. After a failed sac bunt, Beef Johnson's fly ball to right was misplayed and the 'Trics has runners on second and third with one out. Cooke struck out the next batter bringing Jeff Cavanagh to the plate. I4C elected to intentionally walk Cavanagh. However, after ball two, Barber took a jump off third and Tim Power the I4C catcher threw back to third base. The throw was misplayed, but when Barber broke for home, the ball was astutely picked up by shortstop McGuire and Barber was out on a rare 2-6-2 putout to end the inning.

Carp sealed the win in the top of the seventh. Tim Power lead off with an infield single, was moved to second on a sac bunt by Shawn Simzer, and scored on the game winning RBI single by Todd Storms.

When WC Electric failed to score in the bottom of the frame, Carp won 2-1.
