2nd team all star for the best player in the league, triple crown winner (first ever), and repeat all Canadian 3rd baseman? Seriously something wrong with this process.......

Joe McCleary

I think the problem was that Matt was nominated for both DH and Utility, and it "split the vote" somewhat. Some folks marked him top for DH and some for Utility, but most didn't mark him first for both. Keep in mind he was recognized (deservedly so) as the All Star Utility guy (and winner of the Tim Craig Award)as the best at mulitple positions.

I'm guessing some teams have "yet" to enter game stats however shouldn't there be some sort of mandate for this popularity contest?

At the very least it should require a minimum number of plate appearances. Or better yet games played.

The "mandate" is that each team nominates their list, and the other teams vote. Teams can't vote for their own players.

There is no doubt that it is an imperfect process, and just like any all-star selection process there may be a few 'controversies'. (Ovechkin as both all-star right wing AND left wing in the NHL for example.)

I would agree that often 'veteran' players that are more well known may be more likely to earn votes at the expense of a newer guy who perhaps had a better season.

Ultimately, the main point of the exercise is to recognize the GOFL's top players. While there may be some disagreements about the names on the list, generally speaking I think we have achieved that.
