Kars Aces defeat West Carleton Electric 6-4

The Kars Aces defeated West Carleton Electric 6-4 in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League season opener in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night.

Brad Porter had the start for Kars, with relief from Cory Alkerton and Luke Severson. Steve Cavanagh pitched the first five innings for the Electric with newcomer Cole Bolton finishing the last two.

Kars got on the board first with a solo homer by Nick Ellis in the top of the first inning.

The Aces got another run in third as Chad Milne lead off the inning with a single, advanced to second on Porter's sacrifice bunt and scored on Brad Pender's single to right. After two walks, the bases were loaded but Cavanagh got out of the inning with two strikeouts.

The visitors added to their lead in the fourth. Danny Powers walked to start the inning, moved to third on Matt Alkerton's double, and scored on Milne's sacrifice fly to right.

Knapp walked to start the fifth, took third on Ellis' single and scored on a sac fly to shallow right to make it 4-0. A two RBI single by Knapp in the sixth made it 6-0.

The Electric got on the board in the sixth when Cole Bolton (running with two outs for catcher Dave Bahm) scored on Jeff Cavanagh's RBI double.

The 'Trics looked to start a comeback in the seventh. Neil Murphy lead off with an infield single. Bahm walked, the Bolton hit a home run to put the home team within two runs. However, the rally was ended and the Aces prevailed 6-4.
