I4C beats WC 7-5 in play in game

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League "play in game" between the 8th and 9th place teams to determine which squad moves on to the best of three playoffs was held in Manotick on Wednesday night with I4C Victory (8th) prevailing 7-5 over West Carleton Electric (9th).

Matt McNish had the win for I4C while Steve Cavanagh took the loss for the Electric.

West Carleton got on the board first in the top of the second. Chris Trafford singled with two out, followed by a walk to Alex Boucaud. Adam Brown's single scored Trafford.

The home team responded in the bottom of the second. Curt Scurr singled, moved to third on two wild pitches and scored after a walk to Riley Dunbar on a single by Ryan Clare to tie things at one apiece.

I4C put up four in the bottom of the fifth. Derek Martin single. Then a bunt by Chris Parish was misplayed putting runners on second and third. A hard liner to left field by Gerry Wall was not fielded and went to fence, scoring all three runners. I4C added another when McNish doubled, took third on a ground out and scored on sacrifice fly by Scurr.

The Fitzroy team responded with a single run in the top of six. Neil Murphy walked with one out, took second on a grounder then scored on Boucaud's single to make it 5-2.

West Carleton then tied things up in the top of the seventh. Mitch Taylor singled with one out. Two misplayed ground balls allowed Taylor to score and put Jeff Cavanagh and Chris Costello base. They both scored on Murphy's single.

With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Alexander reached base on an error. Scurr then hit a walk off line shot homer to left-centre to win the game for I4C and move them on to the playoff round.
