Two close GOFL games Thursday in Carp

Both Greater Ottawa Fastball League games in Carp on Thursday night were close, with one run differentials.

The early match saw the Ottawa Valley As edge West Carleton Electric 7-6.

Ben Broek earned the win in relief of Adam Rueckwald. Cory Baldwin was tagged with the loss in relief of Trevor Lahey.

Ben Wade had a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first for the As. Seasoned veteran Bryan Armstrong was two for two with a triple and a bunt single for Valley. Graham Wilson drove in what proved to be the game winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth when he hit a triple deep to centre.

Shawn Rebertz hit a solo shot for Fitzroy in the top of the second. Matt Greer's three run homer in the top of the seventh got the Trics within one but the As held on for the victory.

The late game saw the Manotick Brewers squeak by the Micksburg Twins 8-7. Luc D'Entremont earned the win while Noah Fleurie had the loss.

With the Brewers up 5-3 after six complete, the Twins pit up four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead, including the tying run brought in on a bases load squeeze bunt by noted speedster Paul Griffith.

However, a Manotick rally in the final half frame saw Trevor Beaulieu hit a walk off single to secure the 8-7 win.
