Murphy's Plumbing advances to Harbour Ball finals
Murphy's Plumbing came back to win the third game of their best-of-three semi-final series 10-9 in eight innings against Campbell Fuels in dramatic fashion on Monday night. They now advance to the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League finals against Bren Electric.
Shawn Ryan started for Murphy's, and 17 year old Ryland Hill picked up the win in relief. Rory "Mayor of Kilmaurs" Burns went the distance for Campbell.
The Fuelers were up 6-1 and 8-2 at points during the game.
The Plumbers scored three in the sixth to make it 8-5, helped by a Richard Wilson home run. Then they scored three more in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, aided by a two RBI double by Shane Boyd that bounced of the bottom of the grey monster in right field.
The top of the eighth saw Joe Grey drive in a run for Campbell to make it 9-8 setting up an exciting bottom of the extra inning. Murphy's had the bases loaded with one out. Jimmy Hatchell hit a liner to right field, scoring Ryan easily. The third base coach held up Ryland Hill at third, but his dad Denis continued running to third. With both players within three feet of one another, some confusion ensued. Ryland broke towards the plate, it looked the throw might get him out, but it was offline and missed, and he scored to get Murphy's the win.
Next up are the very prestigious Harbour Ball best-of-three finals, starting Wednesday at 7 p.m.
