Batmen win gold, Micksburg 4th at Ontario Men's
The Toronto Batmen won the five-team Ontario Amateur Softball Association Men's Elimination tournament in Melbourne on Sunday, defeating the host Bear Creek Express 5-1 in the gold medal game. Tyler Randerson earned the win and Ty Sebastian took the loss. Jeff Lyons of Bear Creek was named MVP.
The bronze medal game saw Waterdown Hammer beat the Micksburg Twins 5-2. Reese Yantzi got the win. Joran Graham took the loss in relief of Wade Kewageshig.
Micksburg had beaten Kitchener Hallman Cubs 6-5 in nine innings in the 4th vs 5th game early on Sunday. Kewageshig had the win in relief of Graham, while Don Scott took the loss in relief of Will Schlotzhauer. Dave Pratt has the game winning RBI, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th.
In addition to Team Canada pitchers Randerson and Sebastian, other pitchers there not mentioned above included Kirk Santala and Riley Manion (Bear Creek), Dustin Veenhof (Toronto), Nate Running and Mac Fischer (Waterdown), Tye Boyd and Drew Hathway (Micksburg), Kyle Linton and Liam Laforest (Kitchener).
The Cubs are the host for the Softball Canada Men's Canadian Championship in late August at Peter Hallman Ballyard. The other teams to particpate at that event should be confirmed in early June.
