Ottawa Blitz primed for second GOFL season

from Derick Bulley

The Ottawa Blitz are excited to open their second GOFL season next Wednesday versus Team Easton. After a difficult first season plagued by injuries, player defections, missed opportunities and a slew of losses, the Blitz are looking to make a fresh start.

New to the fold this year are Duane Bromley, formerly of Carp; Ryan Cox; Tyler Cox; Brett Dugan; Will Mood and Andrew Bruce formerly of Valley; Luis Anguas, who is making his GOFL debut after playing in the Glen Cairn league; Eric Sanchez, who is coming off of a solid season with the Blackburn Bombers; Darron Barr from the Upper Ottawa Valley league; and Danny Gallant, who is making his first foray into fastball.

Last year’s core group of Ron Hrycak, Scott Dumouchel, Jamie Blakely, Kevin O’Neil, and Derick Bulley are returning to help lead the team this year.

Jim Blakely, Eric Coatsworth, Anil Hayne, Pat Smith and Gerry Sancartier will be filling out the roster on a part-time basis.

Noel Hayes will be sliding from his regular spot at third base into the coach’s box to help guide this young squad. Coach Hayes is hoping to coax more victories out of the Blitz this year and is excited about the mix of youth and experience, as well as the versatility that has been added to the team for the upcoming season.
