Manotick and WC Electric tie 1-1
Shannon Borho threw for Manotick, while Bud Hanlon had the start and had an inning of relief from Brad Porter for WC Electric as the teams tied 1-1 Wednesday night in Manotick.
Both teams were only able to generate three hits each as throwers for both sides had good outings.
WC Electric scored in the top of the first, as Todd Clouthier reached on an error and was awarded second when the ball ended up in the bench. He moved to third on a wild pitch and subsequently scored on a wild pitch.
Lomor scored their run in the bottom of the third. Rob Soublier walked to lead off the inning, Tony Riches reached on a bunt that was misfielded, and the runners were moved to second and third on a Joe Allan sac bunt. Don Cox then hit a grounder to first that scored Soublier to tie the game at one.
There was no further scoring, but both teams did have chances.
With a single from Steve Johnson, a sac bunt by Steve Cavanagh, a wild pitch and a walk by Adam Brown, Fitzroy had runners on first and third in the fifth inning. However Bud Hanlon, making a rare appearance at the plate hit a fly to left to end the inning.
Manotick had their best chance in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Don Cox struck out but reached base when the pitch sailed to the screen eluding catcher Johnson. Adam Bickell then stroked a single, putting runners on first and third with one out. Cal Medynski then came to the plate, and hit a fly ball to right field. Steve Cavanagh made the catch on the attempted sac fly, then threw a one-hopper to Johnson at home plate, throwing out Cox for the third out of the inning. This was Cavanagh's third assist of the year from the outfield on a play at the plate.
In the seventh, Troy Wilson lead off with a walk, moved to second on a sac bunt by Steve Johnson. Steve Cavanagh then ripped a ball down the third base line that was caught by Trevor Power. Adam Brown then grounded out to end the inning.
Trevor Power lead off with a single in the bottom of the seventh when Brad Porter came in to pitch, but the next three batters were retired to end the game in a draw.
