Quyon sweeps Stittsville in doubleheader - with story
from Sam Oliver
On a beautiful night, in front of the home town fans, the kids from Quyon took both halves of a double header from the 56ers on Tuesday night. The pair of victories leap frogs the Flyers into third place in the GOFL.
Game 1: Quyon 6 Stittsville 3
The 56ers put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no one out in the first inning, however Quyon starter Matt Greer would escape the jam with a pair of strike outs and ground ball to the end the threat.
Stittsville would push three across in the third inning. A lead off single by Tim Power, a pair of one out singles by James Holden and Ryan Bond, and a John Craig double scored two runs and put runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Dan Jessiman then hit a ground ball to Quyon SS Luke Young who elected to concede the run and take the out at first. Once Young had thrown the ball Craig broke for third, but was impeded by the SS and subsequently thrown out at third for a controversial end to the inning.
The 56ers would go on the strand 6 more base runners (8 in total) over the course of the game, but failed to produce any more runs.
The Quyon offense was quiet until the 5th inning when a Dennis McCleary lead off double, a Stittsville error, and back to back home runs by Joran Graham and Matt Greer would see the Flyers take a one run lead.
They would add to that lead in the 6th. Luke Young singled with one out to start the rally, and after Dennis McCleary grounded into a fielders choice, Joe McCleary singled.
That would be the end for Stittsville starter Darren Featherstone (5.2IP 6R, 5ER, 7H, 3BB, 6K, 2WP) who was relieved by Dan Bradley (0.1IP, 0R, 0ER, 1H, 0BB, 0K). Graham welcomed Bradley with a single that would score both McClearys and cap the Quyon scoring at 6.
Matt Greer (7IP, 3R, 3ER, 10H, 1BB, 5K) earned the victory for the Flyers who were paced by Graham's 2 hit 4 RBI performance. Darren Featherstone gets tagged with the loss and Ryan Bond had 3 hits for the56ers in a losing cause.

The 56ers would once again answer in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Bond hit a hard ground ball that was misplayed by the Quyon SS to start the rally. This was followed by a John Craig single. After striking outthe next 56er batter, Graham surrendered a double to Sam Oliver off of the right-center field fence which scored Bond.
