In a low scoring affair, Carp continued its undefeated streak as they beat Greely on Thursday night. Dan Konkle was on the mound for Carp and he continued his hot streak, striking out 17. He is the league leader with 69 K's over 4 games.
Carp got off to a quick start when Eric Colvin hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the 1st and then stole second. After a strikeout, Carp catcher Tim Power then stroked a high fly ball to deep left center. For a while it looked like it might be a home run, but the Greely left fielder stayed with it and made a difficult catch falling backward at the fence for the out. Ever alert, Colvin tagged up on second and with the left fielder having to get up off the ground to throw, Colvin rounded third and scored on the play. Carp put two more runners on but Greely starter Shannon Borho worked out of the inning via a strikeout.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 3rd when Carp left fielder Shawn Simzer hit a one-out triple to left center. Tony MacDonald followed Simzer with a walk, putting runners on the corners. Carp DP Trevor Wood then grounded to short, but with Simzer running on contact Greely had to settle for the force out at second base, giving Carp a 2-0 lead that would stand for the remaining 4 innings.
Derek Dumond had a great night at the plate for Greely, going 2-2 with a walk, including a double to center field that just eluded a diving Eric Colvin.
Veteran Gord Flannery pitched the bottom of the 6th for Greely in relief of Borho.
