The movies show us that pirates love gold. This goes as much for the ball-playing Pirates of today as the seafaring pirates of old.
But gold proved elusive for the Pirates Novice Tier 2 girls’ fast pitch team at the recent annual Paul Currelly tournament in Cobourg, Ontario. The Pirates sailed up against the Peterborough Thunder in the gold medal championship game of the tournament after both teams went undefeated to get there. This final championship game was a close contest but the Pirates came up just a little short, losing 6-4. However, the Pirates did get some plunder from their performance, bringing home the silver medals from the tournament.
The Pirates Novice Tier 2 girls’ fast pitch team is affiliated with the Kanata Minor Softball Association and although based in Kanata, the team includes players from Stittsville, Orleans, Greely, Pembroke and Prescott as well as Kanata.
The Pirates are still marauding around in search of precious gold medals. The team has upcoming tournaments in Binghamton, New York and Whitby as well as the provincial championships in Windsor.
