Graham leading Napanee
Joran Graham has been the key for the Napanee North Key Jr. Express at the Canadian Junior Men's Fastball Championship in Owen Sound.
Graham pitched his second shutout in three games yesterday as the Express improved to 2-1 with an 8-0 win over Quebec.
Graham, who won the top player award at the national midget championship last year, gave up three hits and struck out seven against Quebec. He helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Andrew Wemp also had a big day with the bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run.
The big win helped erase memories of a 4-0 loss earlier in the day against the Nova Scotia Eagles.
Nova Scotia scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning off Napanee starter Jordan MacDonald.
Eagles starter Corey Avery was outstanding, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits.
The Express opened the tournament on Sunday with a 3-0 win over the Waterloo Twins as Graham threw a one-hitter. Ben Tee and Brad Fogal hit home runs for the Express, who face the host Owen Sound Selects this afternoon.

Third time a charm for Graham at Canadian Junior championships

Just call Joran Graham Mr. Shutout.
The Napanee North Key Express starter didn't allow a run for his third time in as many outings at the Canadian Junior Fastball Championship as his team edged highly-regarded Newfoundland 1-0 yesterday in Owen Sound.
"He has just been outstanding," Express coach Joe Lewis said of the Micksburg native. "(Catcher) Chris Brown works him really well and he keeps the ball down. He goes in and out, mixes in the change and shows the rise to get guys thinking."
Napanee beat winless B. C. 5-3 late last night. The Express are tied for third place at 4-2.
Graham won a pitcher's duel over Mike Noftall, who allowed the same amount of hits (five) as the Napanee hurler but gave up the one deciding run.
It came in the fifth inning as the red-hot Ben Tee delivered a run-scoring single to give Graham all the offence he would need for the game.
Graham also was the beneficiary of some fine defence. In the second inning first baseman Cal McGarvey fielded a ground ball and fired home to Brown to nail a runner at the plate.
In the sixth, shortstop Chris Lewis turned a 6-3 inning-ending double play and in the seventh and final inning, outfielders Craig McGarvey and Andrew Wemp did well to get in front of hard-hit balls to prevent extra-base hits.
Graham finished it off with a strikeout, his seventh of the game.
