WC Electric wins home opener 3-0 over I4C Victory

West Carleton Electric won their home opener 3-0 over Carp I4C Victory in GOFL play in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night.

The Electric used two pitchers, two home runs and two timely double plays to come out on top in the first game of the season.

Bud Hanlon had the win for the home squad, while Troy Wilson earned the save. Dan Konkle took the loss and had relief from Kyle Olson.

Dave Bahm put Fitzroy on the board with a home run in his first at bat in GOFL play, nailing the first pitch he saw deep to centre-right field for a 1-0 lead in the second.

WC Electric also scored one in the third, but could have scored more, as they left the bases loaded. Jon Daley singled with one out for the 'Trics. After a strikeout, Mitchell Taylor singled and agressive baserunning by Daley put him on third. When Jeff Cavanagh reached on an error, the score was 2-0. Troy Wilson then walked to load the bases, but Konkle ended the inning with a pop up.

Kevin McGuire led off the fourth for I4C with an infield single, and moved to second on a Konkle walk. After Hanlon struck out the next batter, a well executed 4-6-3 double play finished the inning.

Beef Johnson's lead off home run in the fifth was the third run of the game for WC Electric, as Kyle Olson came in on relief.

With Troy Wilson in to finish the game on the slab for Fitzroy, I4C Victory had their best chance of the night to score in the sixth. Aaron Amo doubled to left-centre to lead off. After walks to Kevin McGuire and Kyle Olson, the bases were loaded with one out. Wilson struck out the next batter for the first out. The next batter dribbled one just in front of the plate and catcher Beef Johnson pounced on the ball, got the force at home and the out at first to end the inning and preserve the shutout.

I4C had two base runners in the seventh with Shawn Simzer reaching on an error and Eric Colvin's single, but Wilson got out of the inning to give WC Electric their first win of the 2010 campaign.
