West Carleton Electric wins 4-1 over Stittsville
West Carleton Electric had a much needed win with a 4-1 victory over the Stittsville 56ers at the Grove on Wednesday night.
Jeff Barber had his first win of the year on the slab with a strong performance, while Darren Featherstone suffered the loss.
The 56ers threatened in the first when John Craig and Dan Jessiman had back to back singles with one out, but Barber got out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out.
Stittsville scored their run in the second. Scott Jessiman walked, advanced on Darren Ladouceur's single, and scored on Scott Herriot's RBI single for the 1-0 lead. After an error loaded the bases, Barber was able to get a ground out to escape further damage.
WC Electric responded in the top of the third with two runs. Trevor Barton walked and moved to second on Andy Barber's single. Both runners advanced 60ft on a ground out, then scored on Jeff Barber's 2RBI single.
Fitzroy added to the lead in the fifth when Andy Barber tripled to lead off the inning and scored on Beef Johnson's sac fly to right field.
The 'Trics added an insurance run in the top of seven when Andy Barber doubled with one out, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a dropped third strike. The youngest Barber (17) ended the night just a homer short of the cycle and scored three runs.
Stittsville threatened in the final inning when Dan Bradley walked and Featherstone singled with two out, but Jeff Barber was able to induce a ground out to close the game.
