Quyon wins game one 2-0 over WC Electric
Quyon COMBAT Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the quarter-final playoff series with a 2-0 victory over West Carleton Electric on the Quebec side on Tuesday night.
Recently returned from the Junior Nationals, Joran Graham was the winning pitcher, throwing a one hitter, while Jeff Barber threw well allowing only three hits while taking the loss for Fitzroy. Every starter for the Electric walked at least once, and they left eleven men on base, but failed to score a run.
Quyon scored both their runs in the bottom of the first. Shawn Laframboise's solo shot golfed out of the park made it 1-0. Then Nick Armitage and Joran Graham both walked and moved to second and third on a wild pitch. After a strike out, a ground out should have ended the inning but a wild throw to first allowed Armitage to score and make it 2-0.
The Electric had a chance to get the runs back in the second when three walks loaded the bases with one out. A hard hit ball by Mitch Taylor looked like it might score some runs, but the 4-2 put out at home made it two out, and another ground out ended the inning.
The Flyers had a good chance to score in the fifth when another walk to Joran Graham and a single by Joe McCleary put men on first and second. However a ground out and a fly ball ended the threat.
Fitzroy again threatened in the seventh. Mitch Taylor, Derek Barber and Neil Murphy all walked and the bases were loaded with two out. A sharply hit ball by Troy Wilson was fielded cleanly by Armitage at shortstop and the game ended in a 2-0 victory for the home team.
