Harbour Ball preview
Last but not least, the 2011 "Harbour Ball" season opens on Sunday May 8 in Fitzroy Harbour.
The Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League has 8 teams this season - seven local men's teams plus a local Midget team.
The league plays Wednesday nights, with occasional Sunday night games until minor softball is done. The league will be bringing back the annual tournament in June this year.
Harbour Ball is a great mix of young and old, featuring everything from ages 60+ to teenagers playing recreational fastball - just like in the old days before everyone started playing slowpitch. Some of the FHMFL pitching greats this year include "Willy White Shoes", "The Bird", "Stovepipe Willie", and "Grumpy Cliff".
So endeth the round up of other men's leagues in the area for 2011. Word is that the Upper Ottawa Valley Men's Fastball League will not be playing this season. Any other updates can be sent to fastball[at]fitzroyharbour.com.
