GOFL teams in Elkland
Results weren't so good for West Carleton Electric at the Elkland Labour Day tournament this year as they went 0-3.
The first loss was to "Dick's Diner" formerly known as the Beverage Barn from Williamsport, PA. The Diner got out to an early lead and the Electric's comeback was too late, as the final was 7-5. Andy Barber took the loss and some Dick named Trevor was the winner.
Second game was against Carp I4C Victory. Caleb Keeshig threw for Carp while Jeff Barber had the ball for Fitzroy. Carp won 8-1. Matt Medaglia had a homer for Carp, while Derek Barber had an inside the park HR for WC.
To finish things off, the Greenbush, ON Generals beat WC 7-0. Andy Barber took the loss while Dustin Veenhoff was the winner.
The other GOFL teams fared much better.
The Kars Aces won their opener against Jersey Shore, PA Generals, then lost to the tough Shaggy Dog team from Erie, PA. Kars then came up the loser's side, beating Karme Construction from Allentown, PA, the defeating aforementioned Dicks in which the benches emptied but no punches were thrown. That set up a game against the Knoxville/Ontario game on the Sunday night which was a very entertaining match up under the lights. After a big win in that game, they were ready to play on Monday when the rain cancelled things.
Barrhaven Broadway Blues won their first two games, defeating the ESA Thunderbellys (the host team), then beating the Dicks. This put them in the winner's bracket semi-final, but they lost to the New York Bombers. They too were ready to continue on Monday.
Carp I4C Victory had a tough first game against PA Power in which they lost an extra inning game 5-4. Dan Loney and Kevin McGuire had back-to-back homers in the seventh to force extra innings. I4C rolled off three straight wins before play was halted, beating WC Electric, the ESA Thunderbellys and the Greenbush Generals.
All three GOFL teams that were remaining on Monday received a portion of the payout which was divided up amongst the six remaining teams depending on whether they were in the winnners' bracket (PA Power and NY Bombers) or losers' bracket (I4C, Kars, Barrhaven and Shaggy Dog).
Fun was again had by all - Memories of Elkland 2011 soon to be posted.
