Blues and Aces tie at 4

from Steve Edgerton

Barrhaven 4 Kars 4

The Blues started the first with a lead off single by Aaron Amo who sacraficed to second by Kevin Williams and then took third on a pass ball. With two out Amo stole home after the throw back to the pitcher and a close play at the plate with catcher Matt Alkerton.

Kars quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the first the help of some suspect defence. Brad Pender lead off with a single, stole second and then scored on an error at short of the bat of Kristian Knapp. Knapp stole second and scored on a single by Spud Morrison.

No scoring in the second, and the Blues put up 3 in the third. Calvin Medynski out of retirement lead off with a single, advanced to second on a sac by Amo, and scored on the Williams strikeout as the throw after the pass ball made it all the way to right field. Williams ended up on third on the play and scored on a pass ball. Chad Hargrove hit a line drive home run to right centre for third run in the inning.

Kars answered in the fifth with Knapp hitting a triple down the third base line. Next batter Chad Milne drew a walk and both runners scored on the Morrison double.

Barrhaven made a pitching change for the seventh with Trevor Lahey replacing Paul Ceppi. Lahey struck out Pender, walked Knapp who stole second, struck out Milne and set up a coaching decision to walk Morrison with first base open. Lahey struck out Scott Marion to preserve the tie for the visiting team playing at home.

For his pitching performance, the Caveman's Choice as player of the game goes to Kars thrower Brad Porter.
