56ers defeat Blitz, Konkle earns win - UPDATED

The Stittsville 56ers beat the Manotick Blitz 9-6 in GOFL action on Wednesday night at the Grove. Dan Konkle has his first win for the 56ers, in relief of Trevor Scott. Jamie Blakely took the loss in relief of Derick Bulley and had relief from Shannon Borho.

Stittsville 56ers Use Big Inning to Defeat Manotick Taylor's Blitz

 Trevor Scott took to the rubber for the 56ers.  He allowed an unearned run in the first inning when Derek Martin reached first and Derick Bulley hit a double.  Derick Bulley got the start for the Blitz.  The 56ers went three up and three down in the first.

Matt Bowman hit a single in the top of the second but was stranded by the Blitz.  The 56ers got a run to tie the game with a one out single by Tyler Nystedt followed a double be Trevor Scott.

The Blitz got three runs in the top of the third inning.  Marcel Mondoux led off the inning with an infield single, Derek Martin knocked him in with a double.  Derick Bulley followed with a walk.  Then Jon Ferguson knocked in Martin and Bulley with a one out double.  Matt Bowman walked with two out but the Blitz stranded two.

In the bottom of the third inning, the 56ers tied up the game.  With two out, John Craig hit a single followed by a single by Dan Jessiman.  The Blitz brought in Jamie Blakely in relief.  Dan Bradley reached on an error.  Then Tyler Nystedt hit a single to tie the score before Blakely got a strike out to end the inning.

Dan Konkle came on in relief for the 56ers and the Blitz went three up and three down in the top of the fourth.  The flood gates opened for the 56ers in the bottom of the inning. Mike Barrett led off with a double.  Darren Ladouceur followed with a walk.  Darren Featherstone cleared the bases with a triple.  Jon Craig and Dan Jessiman walked before the Blitz brought in Shannon Burho in to pitch.  Dan Konkle then hit a single followed by another single by  Barrett.  By the time the dust settled the 56ers had sent 11 players to bat and scored 6 runs to take a 10-4 lead.

The Blitz stranded a one out single by Tony Searle in the top of the fifth.  The 56ers went three up three down.  The Blitz stranded two walks in the sixth.  Dan Jessiman led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple and then with the 7-run mercy rule looming Burho got the next three outs.

In the top of the seventh, Derick Bulley got hit by a pitch.  Then Tony Searle singled.  Shannon Burho and Matt Bowman hit singles scoring Bulley and Searle.  Konkle finished it with two strike outs to end the rally and the game.

The final score was 10-6 for the 56ers over the Blitz.  Dan Konkle got the win and Jamie Blakely took the loss.

Nice to see "Konks" back in action in the GOFL. For his win in his first appearance as a 56ers as well as his RBI, Dan Konkle is Caveman's Choice for player of the game.
