Stittsville comes back to beat Kars 10-9 - UPDATED

The Stittsville 56ers came back from a 9-5 deficit to beat the Kars Aces in the bottom of the seventh, earning a 10-9 win in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play at the Grove on Wednesday night.

Darren Featherstone had the pitching victory, while Cory Alkerton took the loss. Alkerton hit a monstrous grand slam for Kars.

Details from Johnny Craig

Another shootout at the O.K. Corral last night as the 56ers scratched out a 10-9 victory over the Kars Aces in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play at the Grove in Stittsville.

Stittsville got on the board first with a couple of hits by Ryan Bond and John Craig. Bond would later score on a wild pitch.

Kars answered big in the 3rd though with a Cory Morrison single, a couple of walks to load the bases and then Cory Alkerton hit a heat seeking missile 20 feet over the lights in left - a grand slam, 4-1.

56ers would get one back in the bottom half on a Dan Bradley triple who later scored on a fielder’s choice.

More action in the 5th when Nick Ellis reached first on a fielder’s choice and walk to C. Alkerton gave Kars runners at first and second.  They advanced on a wild pitch but Stittsville tried to get Ellis at third and the ball went to left field. He scored and Alkerton came to third only to realize the 56ers were sleeping on the play so he rounded third and scored all the way from first on a wild pitch.  It wouldn’t matter because Matt Alkerton then hit a triple and scored on Pollard’s double giving the Aces a 7-2 lead.

Bottom of five the 56ers clawed back as Tyler Nystedt got to second on an error and scored on Darren Featherstone’s single.  Scott Herriot reached on a fielder’s choice and singles by Dan Jessiman and Bradley brought in two, 7-5.

Top of 6 now as Kars refuses to go away. With two outs Kristian Knapp turns a routine single to right into a double. He scored on Ellis’s single who would then score on C. Alkerton’s triple, putting Kars up 9-5.

In the bottom half, Ben Gigliotti starts things off with a double, a walk to Nystedt and double to Herriot scores two, 9-7.  A walk to Jessiman sets the table for the strange twist that followed, wild pitch and runners advance but Kars tries to get Herriot at third and the ball gets to left- déjà vu? Herriot scores, Jessiman advances and believe it or not rounds third and scores making it the second time a runner from first would score on a wild pitch and ties the game at 9.

The Aces threatened in the top of 7 putting runners on the corners with 1 out but the 56ers got out of the inning.

Move to the bottom now and Bond drew a walk and advanced to third on two fielder’s choices, and then scored on a wild pitch to end the game 10-9 for Stittsville.
