WC Electric 2 Micksburg 0 - UPDATED
With the nasty weather that rolled through earlier in the day, a lot of work had to be put in to make the Micksburg diamond playable for the Friday nighter as part of the Showcase. (Unfortunately the Squirt Boys game scheduled prior to the GOFL game was postponed.) The Greater Ottawa Fastball League game did end up being played, and West Carleton Electric beat the Micksburg Twins 2-0..
Andy Barber had the complete game win for Fitzroy, allowing only one hit. Joran Graham took the loss, with two innings of relief from Corey Costello.
West Carleton scored their first run in the third. With two out, Andy Barber walked, and later stole second. He scored on Michael Cavanagh's triple to the left centre gap to make it 1-0 for the visitors.
Micksburg got two runners on in the fourth on walks, but could not cash a run.
The Electric scored another run in the fifth. With one out, Trevor Barton hit an infield single. He was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Barber. When Michael Cavanagh's high pop fly got moved in the wind and misplayed, Barton scored for the 2-0 lead for Fitzroy.
In the bottom of the sixth, Corey Costello singled with one out. After Graham grounded out and moved Corey to second, West Carleton elected to intentionally walk Chad Costello. A grounder to second ended the inning.
After Costello struck out the side in top of the seventh, Barber did the same in the bottom of the inning to close out the game.
Andy Barber earns the Caveman's choice as player of the game for his excellent pitching outing.
