Kanata Pirates win 7-6 in Fitzroy

In a game that saw several lead changes, the Kanata Pirates scored three in the top of the seventh to defeat West Carleton Electric 7-6 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night.

Trevor Lahey earned the complete game win, while Jeff Barber took the loss in relief of Steve Cavanagh.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the top half of the first. Kevin Shonfield hit an infield single and scored on Tony Macdonald's double.

The Electric answered back, tying the score when Andy Barber's line drive cleared the fence for a solo home run.

Kanata again scored one in the second. Jordan Adams reached base on a misplayed grounder, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Lahey's RBI single.

WC took the lead for the first time in the bottom of two when Jeff Cavanagh's home run scored Neil Murphy who had walked.

Not to be denied the lead, Kanata pushed two across in the third as Trevor Power's home plated Macdonald who had doubled to start the inning.

After a couple scoreless innings, the home team took a 6-4 lead when Jeff Cavanagh hit his second homer of the night scoring Derek Barber who had reached on an error and Murphy who hit a bunt single.

The Pirates responded in the top of the seventh, scoring three on Power's second homer of the night. Also scoring on the dinger were Joe Allan who had reached on a misplayed fly ball and Shonfield who had walked.

The Electric could not respond in the bottom of the frame and Pirates earned a 7-6 victory.

Once again the Caveman's Choice as player of the game is Trevor Power with two homers and five runs batted in for Kanata.
