Micksburg wins Game 5 on Friday night

Micksburg Twins won game five of their series against Kanata Pirates with a 2-0 win Friday night in Stittsville.

Corey Costello of Micksburg had the win with a two hitter, while Jason Smith threw well for Kanata, allowing only five hits.

The Twins scored in the top of the first as Corey Costello walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Chad Costello's RBI single.

Micksburg added a run in the fourth. Chad Costello lead off with a single and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Kevin Humphries. After a ground out that moved Cozzy to third, Kerr Childerose's infield single made it 2-0.

Micksburg threatened again in the fifth. With Jamey Mick on after a single (his second of the game) and Joran Graham walking with two out, the Pirates elected to intentionally walk Chad Costello to load the bases. The gamble worked as Smith was able to get the next batter to strike out to end the inning.

Kanata got hits from Lindsay Medynski in the third and Aaron Amo in the seventh, but were unable to get Smitty a run, and Micksburg won the game 2-0 and took the series three games to two.

With the win Micksburg adavanced to play Kars in the first round of the Final Weekend Showdown tournament.
