56ers and Electric tie at 5
The Stittsville 56ers and West Carleton Electric tied 5-5 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night.
Kyle Olson threw for the 56ers while Jeff Barber toed the rubber for Fitzroy.
The visitors got out to a 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the first and second innings. In the first, Olson lead off with a single, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a Dan Jessiman's single and scored on Scott Jessiman's sacrifice fly to centre field. The run in the second was scored by Johnny Craig who reached on an error, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Ryan Bond's single.
WC responded with four in the bottom of the second. Chris Costello doubled and scored on Jeff Barber's double. Mitch Taylor singled to score Barber, then he was brought home on a two run homer by Alex Boucaud.
The 56ers tied things up in the top of the sixth to make it 4-4. After two strikeouts, Luc D'Entremont doubled off the left field fence, and scored on Dan Jessiman's homer.
The Electric briefly took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a one out triple by Taylor and a double by Boucaud, who took third on a misplayed ball by the outfielder. Olson got out of the jam with a strike out and pop up.
Stittsville tied the game in top of the seventh. Al Read started things with a single. After a line out, Read reached second on a ground out, the scored on a single by Corey Colpitts on a close play at the plate.
The home team had a chance to win it in the bottom of the final inning. After a ground out, Shawn Rebertz hit a sharp single, then moved to second on a single by Costello. Olson preserved the tie with a strikeout and a fly ball.
