Harbour Ball happenings

Weird stuff happens in the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League. There are quite often unique and/or humorous plays that occur in Harbour Ball, the best place to be on warm summer Wednesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.

This week, the FHMFL saw what might be the first ever 5-3-1-3 ground ball out in the history of fastpitch softball. How did it happen?

Gagnon Plumbing's pitcher at bat. Nobody on base. He hits a ground ball to Grandor Farms' third baseman. The third baseman fields the ball and throws over to first. The throw is on time but low. The first baseman, some old blogger, tries to scoop the ball out of the dirt but can't quite come up with it. On the scoop though, the ball is short of flung outward and bounces directly over to the pitcher. Pitcher grabs the ball and gets ready to pitch to the next batter.

Meanwhile, there is no coach at first base. The Gagnon team is on the third base bench. The batter sees the ball with the pitcher and figures it must have been caught and thrown back to the circle. He starts to walk off the field across the diamond.

The Grandor Farms guys figure out what is going on and the pitcher throws it back to the first baseman for the put out.

Put it down in the scorebook as 5-3-1-3.
