Royals win exhibition match up

BRYSON - The Pontiac Royals of the Upper Ottawa Valley Men's Fastball League won their long preseason exhibition game on Wednesday May 3, defeating the Quyon Flyers 7-5.
Shawn Laframboise led the way for the Royals, hitting two home-runs including a two-run walk-off blast in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for Pontiac.
Winning pitcher for the Royals was Tony Newberry, who pitched in the absence of regular starter, Len Burger.
Quyon benefitted from two home runs, one each by Joe McCleary and Matt Greer.
Luke Young was the losing pitcher for the Flyers.
Rookie rightfielder Dave Dagenais of Campbell's Bay was a bright spot for the Royals, going 2-2 with a double, two walks and a stolen base.
"He was a real bright spot for us," said Royals Manager Tim Ferrigan.
The Royals' season begins today with a game in Micksburg against the defending league champion Twins.
A second tem based in the Pontiac, Shawville Hursty's Bar Athletics, also played their first game Tuesday at home against Beachburg.
The Quyon Flyers are a youth-aged team that play in the Ottawa RA League. Players are 23 years of age and under. They played a second exhibition game against Fitzroy Harbour on Sunday, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
Their regular season begins on Monday against Orleans.
All their games are played in Ottawa.
