Quyon defeats WC Electric 2-1 in Showcase
Capitalizing on two costly Fitzroy Harbour errors, Quyon defeated WC Electric 2-1 in the first game of the Showcase on a very muggy Friday night.
Matt Greer had his second win of the season against WC Electric, throwing the complete game 4 hitter. Brad Porter had the start for the visitors, working five innings, while Jim Ryan took the loss finishing the game.
Quyon opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, Greer reached on an infield error, and scored on a Ben Younge double to put the Flyers up 1-0.
WC Electric responded in the top of the fourth, with Michael Cavanagh atoning for his earlier miscue and leading off with a solo shot deep to left-centre to tie the game up at 1-1.
The game progressed quickly with few baserunners and no runs for either side, until the bottom of the seventh. With JR in to pitch in relief of Porter, Greer lead off the inning for the home team with a walk. He was sacrificed to second by Younge. Then with one out, Shawn Laframboise launched what looked like a routine shallow fly ball to centre. However the ball was misplayed by the normally surehanded Jon Daley and runners were on the corners. Ryan struck out Jordan Kearns for the second out, putting lead off man and hot stick Dennis McCleary at the plate for Quyon. After getting down 0-2 in the count, McCleary got a hold of a rise ball and stroked it to centre for a walk-off two-out RBI single to win the game for the Flyers.
