Stittsville edges WC Electric 3-2 - with story

Stittsville 56ers came back to defeat Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric 3-2 in Stittsville on Wednesday night.

Dan Bradley had the win for the 56ers, while Bud Hanlon took the loss for the 'Trics in relief of Brad Porter.

WC Electric scored their runs in the top of the first, with two out. Todd Clouthier legged out an infield single. With the hit and run on, Shawn Rebertz stroked a single, and runners were on the corners. After Rebertz stole second, Neil Murphy struck out - but the third strike was dropped and Murphy reached safely as Clouthier scored. Troy Wilson then reached on an error and Rebertz scored to make the score 2-0.

Stittsville responded in the bottom of the first. John Craig hit a single and was moved to second base on a Scott Parson's sac bunt. Darren Featherstone then hit an infield single and runners were on first and second. Ryan Bond came to the plate and hit a deep one to right, moving Craig to third on the fly ball. But the relay in from the outfield was misplayed, and Craig scored from third to put the score at 2-1 for WC.

WC Electric threatened in the top of the second, as Jason Armstrong hit a one-out single. Adam Brown then laid down a sac bunt which was misplayed putting runners on the corners. Then the speedy Brown (ha ha) stole second. With Jon Daley at the plate, Bradley threw a wild pitch that eluded Stittsville catcher Scott Jessiman. Armstrong took off for home, but a Stittsville bounce off the backstop meant that Jessiman quickly scooped the ball and tagged the WC Electric player.

The 56ers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Bud Hanlon came in to relief Brad Porter. Scott Jessiman hit a lead off single and was moved to second on a Dan Bradley sac bunt. Rob Rattray hit a clutch two out single, his second of the game, for an RBI.

Stittsville scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. John Craig led off with a slow roller to short that was misplayed. Craig stole second base, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Then when a Hanlon pitch eluded 'Trics catcher Troy Wilson, Craig made a motion toward home and stopped. However, when Wilson threw the ball to the covering Hanlon, the throw was errant and Craig came in to score his second run of the game.

This proved to be the winning run as the game ended Stittsville 3, WC Electric 2.
