Easton prevails 4-2 over WC Electric in Pakenham

Team Easton won by a score of 4-2 over WC Electric in GOFL play in Pakenham on Monday night. A walk off two-run homer by Todd Fraser in the bottom of the seventh was the difference.

A nice crowd gathered in Pakenham on a beautiful night to see local "lad" Jim Ryan of WC Electric face Team Easton's ace Dan Konkle.

WC Electric scored in the top of the first. Trevor Barton hit a one-out single, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Michael Cavanagh struck out, but reached base as the ball eluded the catcher. When the throw went into right field, Barton scored the first run of the game. Troy Wilson then reached on an error, and subsequently stole second, but Konkle pitched out of the jam.

Easton responded in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Dave Tubman walked to lead off . After Kevin Chevrier flew out, Tubman subsequently moved to second a long fly ball hit by Todd Fraser to left field. Randy Peck the delivered a clutch single to score Tubman. After Cory Morrison walked to put men on first and second, John Peck drove what looked like a single up the middle. However, a diving catch by Michael Cavanagh at shortstop and subsequent tag at second base ended the inning, on a spectacular defensive play that drew applause from the gathered locals.

Easton took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Chevrier hit a single and was brought in by yet another clutch two out hit by Randy Peck. Peck drove a double to the gap, scoring Chevy, and moving to third on the throw to the plate.

In the top of the fifth, the 'Trics responded to tie the game at 2. Jason Armstrong slapped a one-out triple to left. After Konkle struck out the next batter, Jon Daley delivered a key single to score Armstrong and even the match.

However, Todd Fraser ruined the show for Pakenham's favourite pitcher in the bottom of the seventh. Tubman led off the seventh with his second walk of the game. After Chevier dropped a sac bunt to move Tubby to second, Fraser drove a line shot to left centre to win the game for Team Easton by a score of 4-2.

Dan Konkle had the win, throwing 7 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 13.

Jim Ryan took the loss, throwing very well over 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits, walking 5 and striking out 9.
