Flyers down 56ers 5 - 2, another HR by Macaroni Joe

from Shawn Laframboise

Quyon played host to the Stittsville 56ers on Tuesday night, earning the victory by a score of 5 - 2. Drew Hathway had the win for Quyon going the distance, giving up only 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 14. Dan Bradley took the mound for the 56ers, tossing the complete game in a losing effort.

The Flyers got things rolling in the bottom of the 1st inning. Dennis McCleary started things off with a one-out single. Then, older brother Macaroni McCleary hit a frozen rope 2-run shot to right field to give the home team a 2 - 0 edge.

After a 1-2-3 second, Quyon added to their lead in the bottom half of the inning. Jordan Kearns started things off with a single, and was later cashed in by Ben Younge on an extremely high fly-ball that left the yard for another two-run shot.

Hathway remained perfect through three, and Quyon added one more run to their tally in the bottom half of the third. Dennis McCleary got things going for the home team with a walk. He then took second on a pass ball. Bradley proceeded to retire the next two batters on strikes. With two out, Hathway hit a short grounder to the pitcher that cashed in McCleary when Bradley's throw went astray.

The Stittsville sticks woke up in the top of the fourth. Scott Herriot started things off with a hard grounder off Hathway's leg, giving the 56ers their first hit of the night. Sam Oliver then hit into a fielder's choice before Ryan Bond hit a rope off the fence in right field, scoring Oliver on the double. Bond swiped third on a wild pitch and then scored on a Darren Featherstone ground-out to short stop.

The game remained scoreless for the final three innings. Hathway struck out nine of the ten batters he faced in the final three innings, surrendering a walk in the top of the seventh.

The Flyers head over to Stittsville Wednesday night for a game against Team Easton at the Grove, whereas the 56ers play their next game at the Showcase this weekend in Metcalfe.
