Trend Arlington Men's Fastball League begins 34th playoffs
Ottawa, ON - Another regular season has wrapped up in the Trend Arlington Men's Fastball League. Lone Star Texas Grill clinched the DC Brown Founder's Trophy as regular season champion with a 15-5 regular season, when they defeated surprise rivals Giant Carpet 6-1 on the second-last game of the regular season 18 August. Defending champion Duguay Sports won a four-pointer vs PJ Quigley's, to finish third and avoid the single-elimination wildcard game.
Monday 25 August saw the 4th vs 5th "sudden life" wildcard nailbiter finish with PJ Quigley's Andy McAfee punching a walk-off single off Laurek Canada's starter Ian Walsh in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 3-2. Walsh confounded PJ Quigley's offense and all night, aided by stellar defense by shortstop Doug Moss. Kevin Wilson got the complete game win, backstopped by Dean McDonald. PJ's now faces Lone Star in the second of two, best-two-out-of-three semifinal series that starts Wednesday 6:30PM at Trend Arlington park, 50 Bellman Drive, off Greenbank Road in the west end.
The back end of the Monday doubleheader saw game one of the first semifinal series played. Giant Carpet defeated Duguay Sports 6-1, with the battery of Jaques "Coco" Maxwell receiving Bob Sarazin again who got the win. Giant Carpet leads the series 1-0 and looks to close out Duguay on Wednesday at 8:30 at Trend Arlington park.
Semifinal winners meet for a best-2-of-3 Final series. For more information on Trend Arlington Men's Fastball, visit http://tafastball.ca/
