Trend Arlington Finals going to game 3

from Wynn Fenwick

Ottawa, ON – Hallowe’en might be six weeks away, but Lone Star Texas Grill is already being haunted by giant empty leather gloves. Game Two of the best-of-three Trend-Arlington Men’s Fastball League championship final series went Monday evening at Trend-Arlington Park. Duguay Sports faced elimination having lost game one 6-2.

Looking to clinch the league championship, Lone Star Texas Grill threw Art Henry for the second time in as many games. Uncharacteristically, they did not support their hurler with much defense. Duguay cleanup hitter Eric Leveille drove home Bruce Thibodeau and Craig Casey in the first. Steve Dumouchel crushed a double the other way on the warning track just beyond Super Dave Stokes’ reach to bring home the 4th and 5th runs, helping his own cause. After he entered the circle for to throw in the top of the second inning, Duguay never looked back.

Dumouchel struck out half the men he faced, as his catcher Benoit Boivin scored two runs. Leveille was two-for-two with three RBI, a stolen base and was flawless at shortstop. Other notables included second baseman Craig Casey (two runs scored) and outfielder Bruce Thibeadeau (two-for-three with an RBI).

Casey O’Sullivan gave the Lone Star crowd something to cheer about in an otherwise forgettable game, supplying two-thirds of Lone Star’s seventh-inning offense. He was two-for-two with two RBI. Henry went the distance with batterymate “Super” Dave Simmonds, giving up only one earned run in a losing cause, striking out six and walking two.

A 9-3 Duguay final forces a game three, Wednesday 17 September at 7:30pm in Trend-Arlington Park, Ottawa, where the 31st Championship trophy will immediately be presented following the game.
