Quyon wins home opener 7-0 over WC Electric

Quyon COMBAT Flyers won 7-0 in a mercy rule shortened game on Tuesday night over the visiting Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric.

Drew Hathway had the win with a one hitter for the Flyers with Steve Cavanagh taking the loss with relief from Bud Hanlon.

The Flyers scored in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Greer led off with a walk and moved to second on a Dennis McCleary sac bunt. Joe McCleary then hit a single to score Greer. Big Joe subsequently scored on Steve Toad McCord's double to put the Flyers up 2-0.

Quyon sent nine men to the plate in the third to go up 5-0. Dennis McCleary led off with a walk, then Joe McCleary hit into a fielder's choice. Steve McCord singled, then Drew Hathway drove in Big Joe with a single. This was followed by a Nick Armitate RBI single. Shawn Laframboise reached on an error scoring another run. Jordan Kearns reached on a fielder's choice and Luke Young walked to load the bases, but Steve Cavanagh got out of the inning with a strike out.

With Bud Hanlon into pitch for the last two innings, Quyon put the game away in the fifth. Hathway led off with a double and was brought in on a Armitage triple to put the Flyers up 6-0 (which should have ended the game with the mercy rule). After two strikeouts, a Young single scored Armitage to cap the scoring at 7-0.
