Stittsville 56ers Team Preview

from Sam Oliver

The 56ers will look to defend their 2008 GOFL Championship title with a roster that remains unchanged from the end of last year.

On the mound, the 56ers will once again rely on Dan Bradley and Darren Featherstone to shut down the opposition.

Sam Oliver should see the majority of the catching duties with help from the Jessiman brothers.

Smooth fielding Scott Jessiman will be found at first base most of the time, with Scott Parsons, Tyler Nystedt and Bradley getting time there as well.

GOFL sophomore Darren “Old Man Hoover” McCartney will be a mainstay at second base as he looks to follow up a solid rookie campaign. Also look for Ben Gigliotti, Nystedt, Featherstone and Scott Jessiman to possible see action at the two bag.

The SS position will be manned by Ottawa’s finest Scott Herriot. Dan Jessiman, McCartney, John Craig and Gigliotti may also see time at the short stop position.

Sure handed John Craig will be counted on to anchor the infield at 3rd base. Parsons, Oliver and Ryan Bond could also see time on the hot corner.

Dan Jessiman will lead the crew of outfielders. He will be flanked mainly by Mike Barrett, Bond, Maheu, Nystedt, Gigliotti, Featherstone and Parsons but there is no one who couldn’t be considered for an outfield tour of duty. Darren Ladouceur will start the season on the DL. While he has made a remarkable recovery from his off season ordeal, it could be some time before the doctors let him lace up the spikes.

56er manager, Robert Craig will continue to be the moral compass and hydrating influence by which the Stittsville ship navigates.
