WC Electric wins 6-1 over Greely

West Carleton Electric won 6-1 over Greely DNTW Eagles in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Fitzroy Harbour Tuesday night. One big inning proved to be the difference in this game.

Bud Hanlon had the complete game win, while Gord Flannery took the loss with relief from Shannon Borho.

Greely left fielder Guy Millette led off the game with a single, one of his three hits on the night, but was stranded.

WC Electric started off the scoring with a solo homerun by Trevor Barton in the bottom of the first.

The home team threatened in the second when two Greely errors put two Electric runners on base with one out, but Gord Flannery got out the jam with two ground balls.

Millette's solo homerun for Greely in the top of the third put the game even at 1-1.

In the top of the fourth, Greely threatened when Shannon Borho stroked a hard single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and Anil Hayne hit an infield single to start the inning. After Hayne stole second to put men on second and third with none out. Three straight Ks by Bud Hanlon shut the door and kept things tied at 1.

The difference maker in the game was the bottom of the fourth, as Fitzroy send nine men to the plate and scored five runs to take the lead. With one out, Mitch Taylor doubled, then Steve Cavanagh singled. After Hanlon grounded out to make two out and put runners on second and third, Greely decided to change pitchers and bring Borho into throw for the veteran Flannery. Adam Brown hit Borho's first offering into shallow centre field to score two runs. Then Jon Daley singled to put runners on the corners. When Daley stole second, Brown took home to make the tally 4-1 'Trics. After Trevor Barton walked, Steve Johnson stroked a triple to right field to plate two more runs and put the home team up 6-1.

Greely put two men on in the sixth when Borho singled as did Derek Dummond. However, the Eagles were unable to score.

Fitzroy almost invoked the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth after Hanlon and Brown hit back to back singles to start the inning, and Barton walked with one out. Borho got out of the jam with a strike out and pop fly.

After retiring Greely in order in the top of the seventh, the final score was WC Electric 6, Greely 1.

In this situation, would the "LOSS" not go to Flannery as he owned the runners on base that scored to make the score 3-1?

An excellent point, that mistake has been corrected. I blame the 150 (3 x 50) post game celebration due to a ran FFGWRBI
