Greely wins play in game, Easton takes game 1 over Orleans - now with more details
GOFL playoff action on Tuesday night.
Greely 9 Fitzroy Harbour 4
The Eagles picked a good time to win their first game of the season, coming back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat West Carleton Electric 9-4.
The best crowd of the season was on hand in Fitzroy to witness Greely score 6 runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
Gord Flannery had the win in relief of Ryan Chatten. Bud Hanlon took the loss; Steve Cavanagh started the game and Troy Wilson saw some action in relief.
Fitzroy opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Jon Daley singled and ended up on third after a Neil Murphy sac bunt. Daley scored on a Jeff Cavanagh ground out.
Greely tied things in the top of the third. Steve Tsonos reached on an error, moved to second on a sac bunt by Derek Dumond and scored on a Terry Jones single.
WC Electric put three across in the bottom of the third. Jim Hook singled to lead off and was moved to second on a Jon Daley sac bunt. Hook was however put out on a Neil Murphy grounder. The Murph Dog then stole second and took third on a passed ball and ended up scoring on a Jeff Cavanagh single. After Steve Cavanagh reached on an error, Steve Johnson drove both Cav brothers in on a double off the monster in right field.
That was it for starter Chatten as the veteran Flannery came in to pitch in the fourth.
Greely scored two in fifth when Mike Savoie led off with a single and Steve Tsonos hit a homer.
Bud Hanlon came in to relief Steve Cavanagh in the sixth.
The game was broken wide open for the Eagles in the top of the seventh. Derrek Dumond led off with a walk. When Terry Jones tried to sac bunt, Dumond was put out at second. However two errors later, the bases were loaded for Greely, putting DH Shannon Borho to the plate. Borho worked a full count and walked to tie the game. Tyler Cox then came to bat. Down 1-2 in the count, he hit a fly to right field. With the ball tailing foul, right fielder Jeff Cavanagh let the ball drop intentionally to avoid the run scoring on the tag up. Cox then worked the count full and preceded to foul off five more pitches, before hitting a slow roller to third on which there was no play, scoring another run. Back to back 2RBI hits by Guy Millette and Mike Savoie put the game out of reach, as the Eagles took a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Troy Wilson came in to retire the final two batters of the inning.
Flannery shut the door for the win, and the 'Trics 2009 'rebuilding' season officially came to a close.
Greely will now play in Stittsville on Weds Aug 12 for game one of the quarterfinal series.
