Manotick 2 Carp 1 (8 innings) - full deets

from Tony Riches

Manotick evened its first round series with a hard fought, extra inning 2-1 victory in Carp on Thursday evening. Trevor Lahey and Neil Cooke both had fine outings as the starting pitchers, each surrendering only 1 run into the sixth inning before the bullpens took over on a cool night.

Carp opened the scoring in the second, capitalizing on a Manotick error to plate Trevor Wood with 2 out.

Manotick tied the game in next frame on a Steve Edgerton single, driving home Joe Allan who had singled and stolen second base. Allan followed that play by making an outstanding running catch in the bottom of the inning, robbing Al Read of an extra base hit.

Dan Konkle and Paul Ceppi relieved for their respective teams and both did an excellent job, carrying the game into extra innings where Manotick took advantage of a Victory error to plate Tony Riches with the game`s winning run.

The series will continue with the deciding game scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 at 8PM in Manotick.
