Barrhaven defeats Kars 9-2 in first game of doubleheader UPDATED

from Tony Riches

Two old teams with new names and a few new faces met in GOFL action Wednesday night in Manotick. Barrhaven Broadway Blues, formerly Manotick Lomor Printers, used a couple of big innings and two double plays to defeat the Kars Aces, formerly Team Easton, by a score of 9-2.

Last year`s Easton workhorse Brad Porter drew the starting assignment for Kars while the Blues sent lefty Trevor Lahey to the mound. Both starters threw very well for two innings before umpire Teddy Metcalfe summoned a tape measure and determined thst the pitchers were firing bullets from the ladies mound. A short search uncovered the pitching rubber three feet behind and the game resumed, with new Kars addition Kristian Knapp opening the scoring with a two run homer. The Aces held that lead into the fifth when both teams changed pitchers and the Blues jumped on league newcomer Chris Hall for a six run inning highlited by Calvin Medynski`s two run single. Barrhaven added to their lead and closed out the game in the sixth with three runs, the final blow being delivered by their newest addition, Jordan Adams.
