Carp beats Barrhaven, loses to Blitz

Carp I4C Victory was in for two games on Wednesday in Manotick and split the games.

In the early match up, I4C squeaked out a 1-0 win over Barrhaven. Neil Cooke had the win while Chad Hargrove took the loss. . The difference was in the top of the 5th. Carp's Brooks Paziuk led off with a single, then pinch runner Neil Drummond stole second. Batter Neil Cooke then hit a sharp grounder to SS and the SS elected to throw to 3B in an attempt to get Drummond out at third. The ball popped out of 3B's glvoe due to contact with the sliding Drummond, so Drummond and Cooke were safe at 1st and 3rd on the fielder's choice. The next batter, Al Read, hit a fly ball to CF that was deep enough to score the speedy Drummond from third. Hargrove then struck out two of the next three batters to end the threat, and only allowed two baserunners the rest of the way. For his part, Cooke faced 26 batters and only flirted with danger in the first and 6th innings with the top of the Barrhaven order at the plate. Both times, Barrhaven got a runner to third but Cooke stranded him there thanks to inning ending strike outs.

In the nightcap however, the Blitz were 12-0 winners over Carp in five innings, with Jamie Blakely throwing the shut out win with 12Ks. Bill Gerber took the loss for I4C and had relief from Ryan Chatten. Ryan Mitts had a 3 run homer and added an RBI single for the Blitz and Shannon Borho had two doubles and 3 RBIs.
