56ers Continue Jekyll & Hyde Season
The Stittsville 56ers were at home to Barrhaven last night and managed a 10-3 win after 5. In an up and down season Stittsville has mercied their opponent or been mercied in 5 of their 6 games.
Darren Featherstone had the win with relief from Dan Bradley, while Paul Ceppi took the loss with relief from Trevor Lahey.
Stittsville picked up three in the first on a double by John Craig, singles by Dan Jessiman and Darren Feather-stalone followed by Dan Bradley's lanky Marmaduke triple to opposite field. Barrhaven later picked up 3 in the thrid on singles from Trevor Wood, Joey Allen, Don Cox, and Trevor Power and a sac fly from Chad Hargrove.
D. Jessiman belted a solo shot to lead off the third and the 56ers added 4 more in the fourth. Walks to Tyler Nystedt and Darren Ladouceur set the table for Ryan Bond's double and singles by Craig and Featherstone, 8-3 after 4.
The Blues threatened in both the 4th and 5th loading the bases both times but but couldn't push a run across the plate. In the bottom of the 5th Mike Barrett blasted his first home run in over a year but found no one at home plate to greet him and silent 56ers squad sitting upon his entrance to the bench. "You (jerks)" said Barrett as the bench and the crowd broke out laughing. 56ers added one more for the mercy and ended the game after 5, 10-3.
