WC Electric wins 4-3 over I4C Victory

West Carleton Electric won 4-3 over Carp I4C Victory in GOFL action in Fitzroy Harbour on Monday night.

Andy Barber had the win in relief of big brother Jeff, while Neil Cooke took the loss in relief of Bill Gerber (no relation).

Victory got on the board in the top of the first. Derek Dumond reached on an error with one out. Tony MacDonald then walked and both runners advanced sixty feet on a wild pitch. Shawn Simzer's single cashed Dumond to put Carp up 1-0.

The Electric tied things up in the bottom of the third. Andy Barber led off with a double, tagged and moved to third on a fly to centre, and scored on a sac fly by Jeff Barber, which actually went to deep shortstop.

Carp went up again in the top of the fifth. Aaron Amo walked to start things, then took second on a wild pitch. A well placed Dumond bunt put runners on the corners. Dumond stole second and then Amo subsequently scored on another wild pitch and Dumond moved to third, and was cashed by a Shawn Simzer sacrifice fly.

The home side again tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Jon Daley led off with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Andy Barber. After a strike out, Jeff Barber singled to score Daley. Neil Murphy's single advanced Jeff to second. Jeff Cavanagh then singled to score Barber and tie the game at 3-3.

Andy Barber came in for the top of the sixth to relieve his brother and blanked Carp. West Carleton responded with the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Neil Cooke. Beef Johnson singled to start the inning. Mitch Taylor then showed bunt and pushed the ball over the infielders' heads to put runners on first and second. Adam Brown's sac bunt moved the runners to second and third with one out. Jon Daley stroked a fading liner to centrefield that was quickly fielded by Dumond. After some discussion by the officials, it was ruled a single, not a catch, and Johnson scored to put the Electric up 4-3, which proved to be the winning run.

Carp made things tight in the top of the seventh. Dumond singled with one out, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Andy Barber struck the next batter out, bringing Simzer to the plate who had hit well all game. Simzer stroked a liner to centre and Jeff Barber made the diving catch to secure the win for his little brother.
