Barrhaven doubles Carp 4-2 - now with details

from Eric Rosenquist

Barrhaven defeated Carp 4-2 in GOFL play on Thursday night in Carp.

Trevor Lahey got the ball for Barrhaven while Carp countered with newcomer Cody Price. Both pitchers worked quickly through the first 4 innings with only 4 runners reaching base between the teams.

Barrhaven opened the scoring in the top of the 4th when Joe Allen reached on a bunt single, stole a base, took 3rd on a wild pitch, and then scored on Trevor Power's ground-out to 2B. Carp starter Cody Price turned the pitching duties over to Neil Cooke to start the 5th, and the Blues promptly added to their lead when Kevin Williams hit a single, took second on a passed ball, then came in to score on Aaron Amo's 2-out double.

Carp answered back in their half of the 5th when Tony MacDonald lead off with a single and then gave way to pinch-runner Ryan Clare. Cody Price followed with a single and both runners were advanced on Matt Medaglia's sac bunt. Lahey induced an infield groundout from the next batter that forced the runners to hold, but Carp second baseman Adam Purdy came through with a 2-out single that scored both runners and tied the game.

Not to be outdone, Barrhaven answered promptly with two runs in the top of the 6th. A pair of doubles from Don Cox and Trevor Power started off the inning; those were followed by a single from Steve Edgerton that scored Power for the insurance run. A fielder's choice off the bat of Jordan Adams erased Edgerton at second for the first out of the inning. Carp avoided further trouble with an inning ending double play when Kevin William's bunt attempt was caught by Neil Cooke who then doubled off Jordan Adams at first.

Lahey held Carp to a pair of singles in the 6th and 7th innings to preserve the win for Barrhaven.  Lahey earned the win and the Caveman's Choice player of the game honours, while Cooke took the loss in relief of Price.
