Quyon comes back to beat WC Electric 6-4 - now with Player of Game
The Quyon Combat Flyers came back to beat West Carleton Electric 6-4 in GOFL play Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.
Joran Graham had the win, throwing a two hitter, while Steve Cavanagh took the loss.
West Carleton scored first on a solo homer by Derek Barber in the bottom of the first.
The Flyers responded immediately with two in the top of the second. Nick Armitage singled, moved to second on a ground out and scored on Luke Young's single. Young moved to third on Jordan Kearns' double and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 for the visitors.
In the bottom of the third, Fitzroy took the lead. Jon Daley walked with two out. Jeff Barber reached when his third strike was missed. Derek Barber's second home run of the game, this a three run shot, put the Electric up 4-2.
Graham settled in after that and did not allow another WC Electric baserunner. Meanwhile, the Quyon bats went to work.
In the fourth, Steve McCord doubled and took third on a wild pitch. He scored on Bucky Fleck's RBI single to narrow the game to 4-3.
The Flyers loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on a Matt Greer walk, Joran Graham double and a walk to Armitage, but Cavanagh got out of the jam with two strike outs.
However Quyon took the lead in the top of the seventh. Graham hit a solo shot to tie the game, the back to back to back hits by Armitage, McCord (RBI) and Young (RBI) made it a 6-4 ball game.
West Carleton Electric had four base runners in the ball game - all of who scored.
Joran Graham was the Caveman's Choice for player of the game for his pitching performance (2 hitter with 16Ks) and his night at the plate (2 for 3 with a walk and solo HR).
