Blitz beat Kars 12-2 on Wednesday

from Marcel Mondoux

The early dip in Manotick had the Kars Aces in town to face the home team Ottawa Taylor's Blitz. Both sides had the minimum 9 players aside as the Blitz made the call to semi-retired, Anil "Needle" Hayne, to help fill out their own roster. Starting pitchers for both sides were Corey Alkerton for Kars while the Blitz countered with Jamie Blakely. Both pitchers went the distance.

In the first inning, Kars got off to another great start on the base paths as Brad Pender led off with a walk and a stolen base followed by walks to Kristian Knapp and Chad Milne. Cory Morrison singled in Pender for the first run of the game. From there, Blakely was able to get the next three batters out to leave Kars with the bases loaded. 1-0 Kars.

The bottom of the second inning proved to be the biggest inning for the Blitz as they knocked in eight runs. Shannon Borho led off with a walk and was moved to third on a misplayed sac bunt by Ryan Mitts. The next batter struck out for the first out of the inning bringing up Hayne to load the bases on a walk. Adam Grier lined the ball down the right field line for a double, scoring Borho and Mitts. Marcel Mondoux followed up with a two run single scoring Hayne and Grier and was knocked in by leadoff hitter, Jeremy Regan via a two run shot to left center. Blakely and Tony Searle followed with a singles of their own and with Blakely on third, he was scored on a sac fly by Borho. Mitts then cashed in Searle with an RBI triple. 8-1 Blitz.

Hayne led off the bottom of the third inning with his first hit of the year, finally, with a solo shot to right center. Regan doubled two batters later and scored on an infield error off the bat of Blakely. 10-1 Blitz.

Kars scored in the top of the fifth as an infield error put a runner on for Pender to give him a tie for the league lead in RBI's. 10-2 Blitz.

For their performances at the plate, Jeremy Regan and Anil Hayne were chosen as the Caveman's Choice for players of the game.
