Carp comes back in the seventh to beat Stittsville
info from Eric Rosenquist and John Craig
Carp I4C Victory used a four run seventh inning to beat the Stittsville 56ers 4-2 at the Grove on Wednesday night.
Neil Cooke earned the pitching win, while Darren Featherstone took the loss.
The bottom of the first, Scott Herriot singled and scored from first on a Dan Jessiman single to right with the hit and run on.
The 56ers added another run in the bottom of the third when Featherstone hit a solo homer to left.
I4C came back to score four in the top of the seventh. Adam Fleming hit a flare single to start. When Joe Murray hit a grounder the 56ers attempted to get Fleming at second but an error resulted in both men being safe. A passed ball advanced both runners sixty feet, and the bases were loaded when Dan Gagne walked. Shawn Simzer reached on a fielder's choice which put Murray out at third, but scored Fleming to make it 2-1. A walk to Adam Purdy loaded the bases once again, setting the table for the red hot Kevin McGuire to single to shallow centre to score Gagne and tie things up at two. The next batter, Al Read, hit a grounder to short and when the throw to home was dropped, Simzer scored and Carp had their first lead of the night. Mike Money's sacrifice fly to right field scored Purdy and added an insurance run.
When Stittsville went out in order in the bottom of the seventh, the game was a 4-2 final for Carp.
Kevin McGuire, with a three for three night plus a walk earned the nod as Caveman's Choice for the player of the game in this one.
