Micksburg wins 1-0 over Barrhaven in 8 innings (WITH MORE INFO)
Another good crowd of fans in Micksburg were treated to another pitchers' duel in GOFL playoffs as the hometown Twins defeated Barrhaven Broadway Blues 1-0 in 8 innings to take a two games to one lead in their playoff series.
Corey Costello earned the complete game win, striking out an incredible 21 batters. Jason Smith also threw an impressive game with 18ks.
The game's only run was scored in a strange way. Paul Griffith started the bottom of the 8th at second (running for Corey Costello), as per the international tie breaker rule. Jason Smith struck out Jamey Mick. Chad Costello smacked a single that would have won the game except for a stellar play by Barrhaven's second baseman to keep the ball from leaving the infield and keeping Griffith at third. Next, Kerr Childerhose managed to fight off an inside pitch to lift a ball into shallow left field. With the fielders playing in, the ball was caught for the second out, but the runner on first had ventured too far off first so the left fielder threw the ball in. Costello was dead in the water - except the ball hit in back. The first baseman scooped up the deflected ball and fired home. The ball skipped past the catcher for Griffith to score the winning run to the delight of the large home crowd.
The date, time and location for game four of this series is still being determined.
